@shayescott: I remember sitting in my living room when I was 10 years old and trying to explain my gender incongruence to my parents. I was terrified they would reject me. We didn’t talk about that conversation again for another few decades because, given the time I was raised in and the religion I was raised in, none of us knew what to do about it. Flash forward to today, and both my parents are loving about my transition, even though they don’t fully understand it. It’s been healing to my soul to have this love and support from them. I often wonder how many of us can’t embrace ourselves fully because we fear people will leave us.
