@nytimes: The Maori of New Zealand named a new monarch on Thursday, selecting a 27-year-old queen who takes the throne as some of the country’s pro-Maori policies are being pared back. Nga Wai Hono i te Po succeeds her father, Kiingi Tuheitia, who died last week after 18 years as king.

Thank you for sharing with the world. Maori is such a stunning beautiful culture that is being under minded and underrated by our current government. Long live Maori and all it stands for

One of my favorite things about visiting NZ was the Māori people & how immersed their culture was there. I hope that doesn’t change

I want to see someone make a painting of her lifting her head for the first time as Queen with her short hair blowing in the wind as a symbol of her fathers passing 🥺 it’s beautiful

She was chosen over her two older brothers. She is our monarch and the closest I will get to royalty besides my grandparents 😂

I am always curious of the Maori culture. And my appetite for knowledge has grown as I get to see a glimpse of it in person while living here in Aotearoa. I do hope to be educated more on this.
