@birdtails: Most bird owners experience this at least once! Blood feathers are new feathers that are still growing they have a blood supply inside the shaft. This blood supply helps the feather grow but sometimes birds can accidentally damage the feather causing a build up of pressure which will cause the feather to begin to bleed. As the feather matures, the blood supply goes away and the shaft becomes hollow. If you notice your bird bleeding, my first recommendation is to immediately go to a vet, however in the event that you believe that you do not have time, it is best to try and pull the feather. Educating yourself on what to do in an emergency can decrease the risk to your animals ❤️
Great job investigating and handling the situation

Pulling a blood feather should never be done without anesthesia, it is extremely painful

Soo can a bird die from a bloodfeather breaking? Or mby then multiple? I had a bird pass away with no sign of sickness but quite alot of blood on some feathers.
