@theisabelbrown: Jesus performed his first public miracle at a wedding. The first people were joined together in a simple wedding, with God establishing marriage at the very foundation of this world. Humanity’s very relationship with God comes to its climax in Revelation at the “wedding supper of the Lamb,” with the Church identified as the Bride of Christ. So, it’s not really a surprise that the closest I ever felt to heaven was kneeling under this altar on my wedding day next to my husband, tying our souls together with God in an everlasting covenant. I’ll never forget exactly how the light looked coming through this window behind the altar as our amazing priest prepared the Eucharist - watching the sun beams shine through the very Body of Christ felt like looking into heaven itself. In a way, I suppose I was looking into it: perfect union with God in a true, selfless, sacrificial love for Him and my husband in His beautiful institution of marriage. & the best part? Every day feels like that since. Maybe it’s not as photogenic, but rolling over in bed in the morning & seeing my hubby, laughing hand in hand while we walk the dog, curling up on the couch to rewatch a movie, & sitting together in mass brings me right back to this spot: heaven on earth.
