I definitely understand your process of straightening before styling. After my 2nd chop I used that technique and did braid/twists outs and it took the style much better then if I didnt straighten it.

After wash & products i’ll put it in 2 french braids and leave it to dry a few days. Bit of a wait but, nice to have it out the way for me tbh. I experience less knots and shedding this way too
