This was one of my favorite grey transitions BECAUSE of the existing obstacles in her hair. We first did a Zoom consultation (she was flying from FL) & she mailed in test strands, which gave me about 80% of the info I needed to come up with a game plan. I knew I’d only be able to get the other 20% when seeing her in person and get my hands in her hair. The latter is where I realized that she had more highlights than I had anticipated, and that some of the highlights were fragile already, and some of them had been lightened, then darkened again. These “danger zones” are like tiny boobytraps & each lightened-then-darkened strand is like an ✨invisible boobytrap✨ And in this case, there were BOOBYTRAPS EVERYWHERE 🪤🫣 I took a deep breath, I explained to my client the challenges we had ahead, and prepped her to expect a significant haircut afterwards. She was super nervous about losing length, so instead of doing any sort of pre-cutting, I waited until after the service so we could BOTH SEE what NEEDED to be cut off and make that decision together. I knew that if we took our time to do things right, we could get her to grey (mostly) while mitigating the damage. NOT prevent it, but minimize it as much as possible. There were a few areas where I actually could NOT lift her as light as we needed to due to the amount of “boobytraps” in those areas, so I had to make the call and “leave some warmth so that we could leave some hair”. Those areas I “spot treated” with a darker toner. Did I clench my booty cheeks throughout this entire process? Yes. But did we love the end result? Hell yes. Formula: Lightener: Goldwell Oxycur & 10vol Lowlight: Topchic 2/3 6A, 1/3 5A & blue pure pigment, 3% developer Pre toner: SEQ 55grams 10T, 5grams 10VV Final toner: 10T Color coded w/ @framar ice cream foils 🍦 We used @k18hair mist & mask every step of the way.
