I don't get the door one. I understand it not being common there but it can't be due to congestion because you could go to the most congested city in America and people still hold doors 😭

regarding to the door thing, yeah, I understand it’s a manner. However here in Japan we don’t think that way. Since we’re all adults, we don’t need someone else’s help for only to open the small door.

what's with tourist and "holding the door open for other people" thing? I don't hold doors for other people but I'm not being rude, I'm not entitled to hold it for tourists or anyone for that matter.

In larger city’s in the US I don’t think it’s all that common to hold the door open for someone just like in Japan, but I’d imagine the etiquette is different in smaller cities or towns

In England if you push a door open it’s kinda considered normal for you to kinda keep your hand on it as you walk through so it’s still open so the person behind doesn’t have to open it

I definitely heard car honking a few times in Ueno at a particular junction - ppl still honk, but only at drivers who are driving unsafely, same as where I'm from. honking for no reason is a US thing

I was honestly shocked that they didn't do this when I visited the states. In Canada, everyone does this. Most people look to see if someone is coming behind them

Where I'm from usually the door holding isn't you just standing there with the door but just holding onto it for long enough to let the person behind "grab" it so it does't crash onto them

I went to Japan and was surprised by the number of people who refused to get on one side of the sidewalk so the other side could pass. I had to pretend like they weren't there to get them to do it 😒
