@joshterryplays: I call it “cool kid” syndrome. There’s this negative loop people get in when they think knowledge is all that matters. First they get excited about every new thing they learn. Then their superior knowledge becomes their status symbol. They look down on people who know less. And they seek to constantly learn more just so they can know something someone else doesn’t. The expression “familiarity breeds contempt” starts to come true as they start to feel like everything except for the “the new cool thing” becomes unimportant. And a once smart person becomes lost in and ignorant spiral towards “more information” whether it’s useful or not. Action is the thing you do in real life that creates a reality check for you, so you don’t chase stupid things like an idiot calling it superior knowledge. Knowledge is awesome, making it your life’s purpose, is not.
