@nurse.christina: No I’m not sticking my patient 5 different times in one day 🙄 *there are of course certain labs you need two sites. #nurse #nursing #nursetok #nursesoftiktok #nurses #healthcare #hospital #ernurse #emergency
As long as doctors are adding on labs that need new tubes every 2 seconds, I’m drawing off the line

Wait, there are EDs that don’t let you draw from the line?

From a phlebotomist even if it is hemolyzed, THANK YOU FOR TRYING!🫶🏼 nobody should ever want their patient stuck multiple times unnecessarily

It sucks because pts come up from the ED and they don’t understand why the ED nurses pulled from their IV but the floor nurses can’t do that because “it’s against hospital policy.” Plus it makes the IVs go bad quicker.

Drawing off the line is a huge no no where I work. It doesn't work most of the time with our catheters either🤷🏼♀️

There a reason why they don’t let some places do that? I find these type of rules ridiculous af

It's funny because in peds that's the preferred practice to draw from existing PIVs 🤷🏼♀️at least at the hospital I work at

why is this? I asked in my er if the lab could pull blood from my iv and they said no, after it took 4 nurses and like 8 pokes later from them

If you withdraw and discard the first 5-10ml and flush afterwards, it makes literally zero difference
