@doctormeki: 3 things I wish I knew as a pre-med and medical student… studying hard does not equal studying smart. through trial and error over several vears, I learned what study strategies work well for me. I remember struggling immensely during STEP1 and utilizing an extreme amount of resources because "all" of my classmates did too. In reality, I only needed a couple of those study tools and should have repeated the strategy that worked well for me in the past Do not feel like you have to use everything to do well. Individualize your study habits and STICK with it. that feeling of dread when starting a new rotation, being asked something you absolutely do not know, or asked to lead difficult conversations with patients... it never goes away. You just get better at managing it over time. With practice, your skills will sharpen and these things may not be as scary anymore. But along with that, it's so important to invest in your mental health so that you have the appropriate tools to help you decompress and manage all of the emotions that come with working in healthcare (AND being a learner). slow down. life doesn't stop when youre chasing the next milestone. whether that's getting into college, being accepted to medical school, matching into residency or beyond... it's never really over. there is a culture of delayed gratification in healthcare that unfortunately comes with the job, but I find it so unhealthy and I try to break that reality every day. find a pocket of time every day or every week to just live. Don't wait to go on that trip, fall in love, make new friends and memories. #residentdoctor #premedmotivation #premedmotivation #medicalstudent #residency #medschool #medschoollife
