@nickhamman5: I’m Nick Hamman and I’m looking for the best Fish and Chips in South Africa and I may have just found it! Here at the aptly named Fish and Chip shop in Vic Yards in Johannesburg. This family run business is owned in part by Nic De Sousa, who grew up working in his mom’s fish shop and proudly continues her legacy . Born from passion and wrapped with love, they support other local businesses like The Chili Babe, run by Thandeka and Mazo’s Atchar made by a domestic worker turned entrepreneur who Nic helped expand her business to over 15 suppliers. Going through about 150 lemons and 2 tons of potatoes a week, the food genuinely is fantastic.  I Opted for slap chips, with crispy also being an option which came together with hake. I honestly can’t sing the food’s praises enough. This spot is the ultimate rebuttal to the claim that only coastal towns serve good fish. To me, everything was spot on. The fish was soft on the inside, crispy on the outside and filled with flavor. The tartar sauce was authentic, with an unmistakable homemade flair and the calamari was some of the best I’ve found. They even serve dishes like Paella, herbs and spices, prawns, mussels and calamari, freshly prepared in a delicious mix of their signature rice.
