This is so interesting. I also thought it was ee-bony-a, or maybe e-bonya (rhymes with Sonya). I can’t think of a spelling that would make me say it right. It’s a bit like ebenezer without the z?

Theres a guy who does classics who did a wicked skit with Greek/not Greek- Hermione, Persephone, Saxophone. (I was at Uni before I ever heard hyperbole & hegemony out loud😅)

I only knew how to pronounce Hermione because I did one of DH Lawrence's books for A Level (back in prehistory) and one of my classmates pronounced her name. Up till then I had said Herm-e-oh-n 😱
