Hospitals can be insane. My placenta wasn’t born until a full hour after I birthed baby because it wasn’t ready yet and we didn’t cut the cord until after the placenta was out 🤍

As an Italian midwife I am so shocked by camping in the USA: in my hospital here in italy it is STANDARD to do what is called "mini lotus" so we wait 1h 30' or 2h from birth to cut it. If the mother wants to cut it first we do it, same thing if she decides to donate cord blood (which is very common here in Italy!) but the standard is AT LEAST 1h, better 1h 30', top is 2h

the hospital did not care AT ALL when we told them to wait. they said "we can wait 30 seconds. hospital policy doesn't allow us to go longer than that"

At my birth, a nurse pulled on the cord to get the placenta to come out 😭 I was like why are you pulling on that then she stopped. The placenta was born 5 minutes after baby so what was the rush

Because they were so impatient with me and mine I had to deal with uterine inversion. He basically pulled my uterus out of my body with the placenta and I almost died without ever even seeing my baby.

I asked my mom about this, she's a neatologist (preemie doctor), she said babies can get too much blood from the placenta and get sick from it. I Googled it, it's called Polycythemia

There’s a confusion about a healthy amount of time for delayed clamping. You SHOULD absolutely delay clamping (emergencies aside) but leaving the placenta attached too long can in fact be dangerous

postpartum hemorrhage here. they pushed me to labor over 44hrs with failed dilation, and 2 failed manual dilations. I went into emergency C-section and a few hours later back for d&c. it was shady
