I put a 4l80 behind an ls swap. 4wd. 90 silverado. I have to pedal it to shift. it only shifts to 3rd. no overdrive. no 4th.... how do I get the data for the output so it'll shift.

just put a trans in my 16 cruze. 191k and swapped out with a trans from a 18 with 32k. installed and never reprogrammed. literally drive it everyday with nothing being reprogrammed.

I believe he might be trying to put a unit with diff valve body plate and checkball design will cuase a no movement condition. I've been there we before .

I do engine swaps at my shop and I have moved trucks with 8L90Es around the yard in first and reverse without having a TCM even plugged in.

You're absolutely correct. ie: Any 8HP...'s we've installed from Jasper or otherwise, must be programmed before driving, learning it's parameters, and further performance tuning it's parameters.

I literally ran into this today on a peterbilt. trans will not engage gear. towed in. no communication trans to abs. abs module was replaced with a used part and gave vin match faults.

100% true. Had the trans replaced in the wife’s Acadia with a GM reman unit by an independent shop, it would not move. They had to tow it to the local GM shop to program the TCM.
