Okay, so listen. Cliffe says there’s a supernatural God and that there’s evidence for it. And when people talk about that evidence, one of the main things they bring up is that 500 people saw Jesus after he rose from the dead. But honestly, we don’t know if that really happened. That’s what the Bible says — and Jesus didn’t write the Bible himself. The Bible was put together over a long time by prophets, kings, followers of Jesus, and other people who were said to be inspired by God.
In 1 Corinthians 15:6, Paul wrote, ‘After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.’ That means Paul said 500 people saw Jesus alive after he died. But think about it — that was just something he wrote. There’s no list of names. No proof. No interviews. No records outside the Bible that confirm it really happened.
People say the story spread because those people told others what they saw, and it just kept going. And maybe that’s true. But we don’t really know for sure. It’s not like we can go back and ask those 500 people. What if, just as an example, one day some kid said to his dad, ‘Hey, let’s go around telling people we saw this guy Jesus — he got crucified, and then he came back to life. Let’s say we were part of 500 people who saw it, and we’re the last ones alive to tell the story.’ What if it all started like that? I’m not saying that is what happened — but what if it was? We’ll never know, because we weren’t there. That’s why it’s called a belief — not a fact.
Maybe Jesus was just a regular guy who was really good at telling stories and getting people to listen to him. Maybe people started calling him the Son of God because they were inspired by him. And maybe he or his followers added to the story over time. Again, I’m not saying that’s exactly what happened — but we have to admit, it’s possible. And the truth is, most people believe these stories — they don’t know for sure. That’s why religion is based on faith.
Now here’s something else. You can’t just expect someone to believe in Jesus or God just because you told them to. It doesn’t work like that.
