Russian President Vladimir Putin said efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine are “on the right track” and that Moscow is ready to work with Kyiv on a memorandum outlining a future peace accord. Speaking after a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Putin thanked him for supporting the resumption of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine. He said Trump acknowledged Moscow’s support for peace, but emphasized that “the key question was how to move towards peace. “We have agreed with the president of the United States that Russia will propose—and is ready to work with the Ukrainian side on—a memorandum on a possible future peace accord,” Putin told reporters near the Black Sea resort of Sochi. “It would define a number of positions, such as principles of settlement and the timing of a possible agreement.” Putin added that if appropriate agreements are reached, a ceasefire could be possible.
