I would go to the salon twice as often if it was only 25% cheaper! Just on principle it’s ridiculous. $300 min with tip for a cut and color. They might do better business if they lowered prices…

So once again business owners raise the cost of product and cite increasing labor costs, but the actual workers are still making peanuts so the extra cost just flows up to the owners instead.

Since Covid the chemicals needed to do colors and hair treatments have gone up at least 20%. Additionally rents on salons have gone up so stylists are charged more per day to rent a chair.

They charge what the market will bear. It's not necessarily an increase in cost. Hair salons charge very inflated prices. Their actual cost is minimal.

I think theres additional ethics that should be considered such as haircuts being a requirement for lots of different types of employment and participation in society. No one else’s wages are going up

$100? Just get a box of Garnier for 8 bucks at CVS and do it yourself at home. It's cheaper and faster.

3 years in the industry and I make 40k a year - about 23 dollars an hour. I do marketing within the company so I make more than average but everything you said is super true

Hair dressers are usually small businesses that don’t report their full income + have to pay ridiculous prices for their studio/chair rent as prices increased from 2019-2024
