Opening our first pop up Restaurant and I don’t know how to feel, I’m scared and also excited. I have ideas and implement them without knowing what the future holds. Always in doubt but I keep pushing forward, I refuse to let my fears hold me back, as I embark on this new journey i would love to embrace the unknown with courage and curiosity. This idea started with a poem, as I left Nigeria on my way to Paris I thought about how much I loved Lagos, waking up in the morning and coming back at night, the hustle and bustle of Lagos, how much Lagos city meant to me. I wanted to tell a Lagos state story through food. Remembering the flavors of my childhood, the nostalgia of my grandma’s egusi with hot eba on rainy days and my mom cooking up a storm every Sunday after church, I remember how my grandads house was always filled on Sunday cause of my mom’s cooking, the ewa Agoyin woman on Saturday morning with the tiny cubes of boiled yam, the women hawking hot agege bread everyday, the hot Akara woman every Saturday morning,the fried yam and peppered sauce by the street corner in the evening(dundun ati akara), yam burger on my way to secondary school in the morning,the abacha woman with softest Pomo after school, the hot jollof rice woman in the evening with fried turkey, the women hawking amala and Ewedu every afternoon, let’s not forget about the Togo people selling rice,beans and spaghetti with the sweetest stew ever. Thankfully my sister writes poems and is also a copy writer @illuminatedwordsbygrace , so she was the first person I sent what I joted down on the plane and she turned it into a masterpiece. Now I had my poem on to the next step, I got back to Nigeria and literally ran to the office to tell @chef_joelhugbo, chef Joel listened and got even more excited than I was we spoke about it for 2 hours exchanging our Lagos food stories and and the rest is history. To anyone out there who’s scared and in doubt of taking that next step! You’re stronger than your fears and braver than your doubts, your future is waiting, go get it !
