SHARE with a waterfall lover! If you’ve ever driven between LA and the Bay Area, chances are you’ve been within two miles of this hidden gem! Right after the grapevine near Santa Clarita, this dog/kid friendly is quite definitely a perfect pit spot. SAVE these trail details for later: 🥾 Trail: Whitney Canyon Falls Trail, part of Whitney Canyon Park. 🅿️ Fee: Free with plenty of parking. Dirt and paved parking area, where the paved parking is actually a park and ride. 🦮 Friendly: Yes! Horse friendly too! 📅 Best times to visit: Yearround, although there is a seasonal creek that’s currently dry (the waterfalls are flowing right now just as-is). 📏 Difficulty: Easy to moderate depending on how far you go back. 3.5 miles total out and back to the best falls. There is a rope and some small rocks to scramble over to get beyond the first waterfall. 🏔️ Elevation: About 300 ft. 👧 👦 ♿️ friendly: very kid friendly. But accessing the second and third waterfalls will be challenging for young kids. Stroller doable for the first 1 mile but only for the wide part of the trail (no creek access or waterfalls) 🦅 Wildlife observed: Birds, deer. Coyote are known in the area 🎒Gear: Bring water proof shoes with traction for the rock scramble; bug spray is a strong recommendation. Hiking poles are recommended for when the creek is active. 🕶️ Shade: Mostly shaded; Some short exposed areas. 🛂 Tips: The start of the hike is very unassuming with freeway noise next to Highway 14, but soon you’ll be amazed. The path stay wide for over a mile before narrowing; be sure to find the “cave” on the right.
