@rebeccas_english_hub: Follow me for more grammar tips! 🇬🇧 As an English teacher, I always get asked “what’s the difference between if I was and if I were?”, so this video explores the differences between the two. We use if I were in hypothetical situations and if I was for real situations! #conditionals #englishgrammar #grammarlesson #grammartips #learnenglish #english #englishteacher #britishenglishteacher
If I were is used for unreal, imaginary situations while if I was is used in real situations.

If I was directly after doesn’t sound or read right. It’s better to use that later in the sentences. “When I was a teenager my coach made me do ten push ups if I was late.” Sound much better and reads

Isn’t “was” only used in the past tense, whereas “were” is used for speculative comments about anything that hasn’t occurred yet, but could?
