How many people still cheer the once famous John Ejikeme Nebolisa who was popularly known as Alusi Awkuzu, the Oracle of the whole kingdom of Awkuzu and "Igwe Ibilibe Ogada", the biggest the town has ever seen? He was a very rich and powerful figure among the cycles of the Igbo elites and billionaires of the 1980s and 1990s. Interestingly, Alusi Awkuzu was a very good friend of the Eze ego of Ihiala and Chief Morris Ibekwe of Okwelle Holdings, who was one of the pioneers and top members of the Peoples Club of Nigeria (PCN). People's club was an elite social club where all members were multi billionaires with controversial sources of income. To most Nigerians, billionaire members of this club were either involved in shady businesses, rituals, blood money, and what have you? However, those were just mere speculations often dismissed as envy because none of them were convicted of any crime. John Ejikeme Nebolisa aka Alusi Awkuzu was one of their top members, who was swimming in money. In fact, one of his bodyguards was the then Nigerian wrestler Superman Armstrong. For John, he believed strongly that his money could buy him anyone and anything he wanted or desired. Somehow, in a society where the stomach comes first and the truth comes second, he wasn't far from the truth. Nebolise went against all odds to break the tradition of his people that has been observed for centuries. With his wealth, he had bought the throne of Awkuzu kingdom, an abomination and the first of its kind in Igbo land. He was crowned Igwe Ibilibe Ogada of Awkuzu Kingdom and he invited the famous highlife musician Oliver De Coque to compose a song in his honour. Of course! He enjoyed the support of many of his friends, elders and kinsmen but few maintained their position with the truth. Just like a Nollywood movie, he bulldozed his way and it was a typical case of when money speaks everyone answers. For money answered all things. To be continued.
