@jorge_yera_coach: This is why you never apply latex paint over oil based paint👇 Applying latex paint on top of oil doesn’t work without first priming the surface with oil primer. Nowadays there are paints that do bond over oil like waterbornes and urethanes which are a hybrid ( cross links ) But your regular latex paint will peel and not bond properly. I suggest if the surface is currently oil based after you did your test, to sand the surface thoroughly, apply a good oil based bonding primer and then apply your top coat. #housepainting #interiorpainting #paintingbusiness #paintingtips #tipsandtricks #latexpaint #oilbased #DIY #contamination #husband #dad #fyp #doityourself #painter

It’s not that it’s oil based at all. It’s because it’s glossy. All glossy paint must be sanded and/or primed. If it’s not flat paint you can put latex over oil BUT NOT oil over latex ever.

That's why they make urethane paint so you can paint over oil without primer. Just sand, dust, paint.

We primer trim with one coat of oil based problock primer then one hand of painters edge flat, we sand then apply the trim paint comes out perfect.
