@wildlife_rescuers: "This juvenile platypus was captured by a local fly fisherman in Tumut who noticed strange behaviour and its inability to dive. After making sure he had no injuries, checking that his coat was waterproof, and seeing that he was successfully displaying foraging behaviours, release him back to the river. This platypus was very small and had likely emerged from the nest in the day or two prior and was still learning the ropes. This fisherman has plenty of experience observing platypus behaviour, so it was good to check to make sure it was ok. He was spotted again two weeks later, successfully diving and foraging in the same area (d). Remember if you come across an injured/sick platypus to always handle them by the tail to avoid the venomous spurs and keep them in a quiet dark place until they can be assessed."
