For me it was hearing my parents constantly praising my brother for succeeding without efforts that crushed me bc no matter how hard I worked I was never good or as good🥺

Agree. I was always told I was “smart”. It made me proud of my ability to succeed effortlessly, whereas I’d be ashamed of ever needing to actually work hard, ask for help etc. it stunts your growth.

Disagree! I call my 7 yr old son a genius, which is true. BUT he also understands that when he gets something incorrectly, he just discovers something that doesn't work.

I tell my kid he is smart, but I also tell him that being smart doesn’t he will automatically know something or be good at something. He still has to study and train.

I strongly disagree. My parents never informed me, and I always felt inadequate. I make sure to remind my children that their hard work and intelligence have been worthwhile. They are content.
