That reunion at the end 🥹 My daughter had been asking to do this hike for the last two years, because she had seen her older sister do it, so we made it happen! She knew it was to the top of the mountain, but she probably hadn't heard the total milage before I said it on camera 😅 (AllTrials says 14 but my Garmin said 15 btw) We took our time, hiking 5.5 miles on day one and 10 on day two, moving slowly with plenty of breaks along the way. One of our go-to games is 20 Questions. One person thinks of something, and the other has 20 chances to ask yes-or-no questions until they guess it. We must’ve covered every Disney character you could think of. We also paused to check out fossils along the trail, like an ancient shell from millions of years ago when the Wasatch Mountains were part of an inland sea. I love these moments with Mara. Especially when she says things that make me laugh out loud. Like when she said: “Dad, when I’m a teenager, will you be a grandpa?” Hopefully not, Mara! 😂 We skipped rocks, stargazed, spotted goats, listened to owls hooting, and even caught a glimpse of a pika (her new favorite animal!). We ate freeze-dried meals, shared some candy, and talked about school and the book I’m reading. Honestly, the miles are less important than the time we get to spend together outside. Yes, I want her to feel challenged, but more than anything, I want her to feel strong, capable, and up for a good adventure. Before we left, I told her, “This is going to be hard, but you’re strong. You might feel hot or cold, but we’ll take care of that. It’ll be long, but we’ll play games and have fun.” And although she asked how much farther a few times, she never complained, which I was impressed with. Also, I’m so grateful to Carly who also feels like this is valuable one-on-one time, and I'm so grateful she's willing to hold down the fort while we're gone. ❤️ #TheWaltonAdventure #daddydaughtertime #Hiking #backpacking
