@hito.bito: Japan is by no means a progressive place, so you have to decide what’s important to you. In terms of safety and health though, Japan has been life changing for us (and ultimately why we’ve stayed as long as we have). Hoping people post in the comments with more tips 🙏
I’m so sad. I have a fantastic job here in the US, making around 120k a year with no schooling. But it’s not really a transferable job (firefighting), so I’d have to start over in a new career :(

If you want to move abroad, do not rely on apps. Get a tutor! It’s the only way to really master the language and you make a friend

Are wages very low in Japan? I notice everyone talks about how everything is cheap but nobody says anything about the pay

Would you say someone would need a substantial savings before doing this to afford the school, rent and other expenses? Really want to do this route rather than jump to English teaching

JET probably not the best option for people looking to escape cuz the application process literally takes like a year 😅 . also, it bears saying that for a teacher visa, you need a degree.

There’s also the business manager visa, I wanted to do the language school one but it doesn’t allow you to bring a dependent. Japan is my first pick, but will probably end up in SK
