A few weeks ago, I came across the most stunning lacquer picture frames from Matilda Goad & Co. while planning my guestroom makeover. I instantly fell in love—but at $160 per frame, they were way out of my budget. Instead of giving up, I had a thought: Why not DIY them? Not only could I make them myself, but I could probably create even more for a fraction of the cost. So, off to the thrift store I went, where I found frames in a similar size and shape for under $8. Next, I grabbed a few cans of spray paint in dreamy colors—Claret, Leafy Green, Slate Blue, and Vintage Rose—from Rust-Oleum ($6 each). The red gave me a little trouble, but nothing I couldn’t handle! To get that signature look, I ordered a set of round hanger hooks on Amazon ($13 for five). And because I wanted to make this project completely my own, I even painted my own art and mats to go inside. The result? Beautiful, high-end-inspired frames that cost me just $37 in total and I still have plenty of spray paint left for future projects. I’m already tempted to thrift more frames and keep going!
