I have done this for years. I leave it overnight to allow the oil to penetrate. It protects the wood from odours.

this will be a breeding ground for bacteria by doing this also as thr oil goes rancid and enters the food slowly.

yes you should oil you cutting board but not with frying oil. Use Butler oil or walnut oil.
