Certified sexual health educator Angelica Lindsey-Ali (The Village Auntie) on the importance of men speaking out against injustice and protecting women and children from abusers in American Muslim communities. Sadly, abuse is a taboo topic in religious communities worldwide despite it being rampant. Oftentimes, male religious leaders shy away from such discussions. Rather than holding male predators accountable and reporting them to authorities, many choose to remain silent and/or ignore the issue. In light of the recent arrest of the popular Quran Pakistani-American teacher Wisam Sharieff for child abuse, this should serve as a wake-up call to address the issue of child abuse, which does exist in Muslim communities.
