i think the other huge thing, w the infantilization, is that the fandom manages to subdue or wholly remove curly’s role in the plot and what happened to anya.

I think that's why they left him with one eye that can't blink. it's to try and remind players that Curly is still fully aware even if he's now unable to stop any of what happens

I think too it challenges a lot of thinking patterns ingrained into society. when you start the game there is a narrative that somehow curly deserves to be in the state he is in, 1/2

It’s honestly quite sad. Ppl tend to only see curly for his disability and anya for her sa which is honestly ironic considering how n why these characters mirror each other.

in the DLC for how a fish is made, you can see that curly blames himself for everything that happened. repeating what he told Jimbo to the player and how he was just repeating what he heard (1/?)

it’s insane to me how many people in the fandom i’ve seen unknowingly fall into jimmy’s exact though process. the lack of media literacy some people have is crazy to the point where they’re reinforcing already so huge harmful stigmatizations that seek to dehumanize people with disabilities and victims of s/a as well. it’s so sad to me when the point of the game goes completely over some peoples head and they fortify the same rhetoric that is almost a one to one recreation of how these people are treated in real life. the game is scarily realistic in a way that i would think would promote understanding and empathy, but instead curly’s disability has been made into a huge joke and the objectify him the same way jimmy does, without even realizing that it’s a very real very huge stigma that people of disability face to this day. and those who deny anya’s s/a just because it isn’t explicitly stated within the lines of the game enforce the same struggles victims face in real. it’s bizarre to me how such a complex game that examines each character can be so deeply misunderstood in such a harmful way.

curly is one of my fave tropes, a helpless Eternal Witness. all he CAN do it witness. he cant STOP what hes witnessing. the greif thatd come from that and he physically cannot cry :]
