@nbcbayarea: #California voters have rejected Prop 6, which would've abolished forced labor for state #prison inmates. The result comes nearly a week after #ElectionDay, in a #vote that was too close to call early. It means inmates will continue to fight wildfires and clean prisons for wages that can be less than $1 per hour. . . . #Election #Election2024 #Elections
“I understood Prop 6.” No you didn’t. All of you are saying it would have ended work in prisons. It would have ended forced labor. They can still work for proper wages. You voted for literal slavery.

The people in these comments are genuinely void of humanity. Could you imagine how much better our society would be without these people ? My god it’d be amazing. Like vile comments

If slavery is only legal as punishment for a crime, then that gives the government an incentive to make more mundane crimes punishable with slavery.

Voting should only be done by educated people. I mean people that actually went to college and passed their political science courses.

California has 0 private prisons. AB32 passed in 2020 prohibits private for profit prisons. Nobody is profiting from prison labor.

I voted no. Didn't think about what it would cost tax payers, just the fact that prisoners would sit on their ass.

I would support prop 6 if, after being paid a fair wage, prisoners were required to reimburse the taxpayers for the cost of incarceration: room, board, healthcare expenses, etc.

I call BS on the idea that voters didn't understand it. We also passed prop 36 with 70% of the vote. We're tired of unpunished crime and criminals.

Good! You committed a crime, but you’re living for free with meals off my taxes, you don’t get to have a choice, you will learn to work whether you want to or not.

I was for Prop 6. We clean our own house, why can’t inmates clean theirs? Why do taxpayers have to spend more money to keep the prison clean and stocked.

It's messed up to make them fight wildfires, but then bar them from firefighter jobs because of their felon status. The purpose should be rehabilitation.
