most helmets in general are made to stop shrapnel even a pistol caliber would easily pierce through a ww1 helmet even ww2 if it was 9mm or 32auto

The French Adrien Helmet is the best design of any helmet for protection. It's problem is that it's hideously expensive to make and the added protection doesn't justify the cost vs Stahlhelm
