Mike Waltz, R-Fla., to be his national security adviser. “Mike has been a strong champion of my America First foreign policy agenda, and will be a tremendous champion of our pursuit of peace through strength,” Trump said in a statement. Waltz served for nearly 30 years in the U.S. Army and National Guard, and worked at the Pentagon as well as in the vice president’s office. He was the first Green Beret elected to Congress when he took office in 2019, representing a congressional district located just north of Orlando. Waltz currently serves on the House Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, Oversight and Intelligence committees, and was just reelected to his fourth term. U.S. relations with China have been among Waltz’s key policy targets. He called on the U.S. Olympic Committee to boycott the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing because of China’s treatment of minority Uyghur Muslims and COVID-19’s origination from that nation.
