@bardboytroy: #greenscreen Edit: to clarify, this isn’t the main cause of the literacy problem, just something that can contribute to early behaviorial & cognitive problems that can impede learning. Children can still grow and develop, etc. I’m just recommending to be cautious because of this. This was not meant to claim to be the largest factor in the literacy crisis, just more of one than adults being encouraged to not move past children’s media. This can contribute to children struggling to learn in early ed; and it continues into later online media that children engage with as they get older - but the main reason for the literacy crisis was the lack of phonics in early ed. Original: I know many adults do not like Cocomelon because they find it annoying, but it goes far beyond that #educational #education #fyp #media #medialiteracy #children #cocomelon

i thought it was because they stopped teaching phonics and started teaching memorization instead

It’s the way Dora literally use to stare of the audience for what feels like a minute to give us time to find the clue. I agree!

The way I, a fully formed adult, still take my time to put away my coat, is by remembering Mr. Rogers doing it EVERY time. Some stuff in life is boring but that doesn’t mean you don’t do it.

Mr.Rogers is so incredibly different from Cocomelon. It’s a lot slower paced and directly engages the audience.

a lot of people make fun of Dora, but the fact that the show literally pauses to let the audience think of an answer is something I don't see in kids shows nowadays

I’m a preschool teacher and I can promise that every single student needs at LEAST 3-6 seconds of processing time after they’re given a direction. Little kids need time to digest material.

My little cousin watches Ms. Rachel. She knows a lot of words at almost 2 and I can quite understand what she's saying too. it's nice how Ms. Rachel even teaches sign language. I enjoy her videos 2

It just reminds me of a saying “it’s okay for kids to be bored” we don’t need constant stimulation and boredom blossoms creativity

some videos I've seen are millennial parents showing their kids shows from when we were kids, like Babar, Rupert, Little Bear, Franklin, etc. that are slower paced & have softer colour palettes.

I worked at a daycare for a while and it was so sad how many 2-3 year olds couldn’t even say a single word, and would come in holding iPads playing cocomelon on a loop. they were literally addicted

It’s sad cause when I was a kid, I loved the show Arthur which was free & I don’t think that the current generation has an equivalent to Arthur in terms of quality, cultural impact and accessibility.

I work with prek kids. we transitioned from videos, often cocomelon, at circle time to music on CDs. the way these kids went through WITHDRAWAL and suddenly couldn't function is so real

I remember seeing a video where a person compared the frame changes of Cocomelon to a fight scene from Arcane, bluey and a song from Encanto. Spoiler alert: Cocomelon had more frame changes-
