That Spain side was one of the best teams ever, but to say "they were always going to win" that final vs Netherlands is revisionist. The game in normal time was very even with Robben missing two 1v1s.

If only Seedorf was there. Before he didn’t have a good relationship with van Basten. Van Marwijk said that he was too good to be on the bench. Seedorf was really disappointed not to be called up.

This was nothing close to a Dutch golden generation. Not even as special as the France 98 and Euro 2000 group. + Italy were world champions and there was a prevailing sense that defensive football
