Did you know that everything here is actual quotes from or about Espio? Espio is a character who is surprisingly characterized as self obsessed (surprisingly if you don’t know him, that is). But if you truly analyze the pieces of media he appears in, you will quickly realize that he is extremely confident in his ability (high self confidence), but doesn’t actually value himself (low self esteem). He genuinely believes what he says, as in, he is one of the most capable people in the friend group, his own team and Sonics circle in general. He is right when he says he can keep up with Sonic. But he also doesn’t believe he is someone whos irreplaceable or valuable enough to stay alive, if its a decision between him and others. In Archie when he’s forced to kill his best friend he doesn’t hesitate to jump into the water with him, and when he’s told by the guy that he isn’t going down without Espio, Espio just says that it’s worth it if everyone else is safe. In IDW he is willing to go on the only solo mission in the group, because Knuckles can’t leave the emerald, and his reasoning is that if the rest of the Chaotix handled the virus, he can too. On one hand saying he HAS to so this, because Vector and Charmy suffered through this, but also subtly implying that if he gets infected, it is what it is. Later when confiding in Knuckles his only worry is letting everyone down/jeopardizing the missions success over his own possible demise. Oh and he blames himself for what happened to the chaotix, despite doing all he could. Calm down (I would too). I just really like reading into tiny specks of characterization, so I can do something to fill the void in my heart, so pretend this is a funny edit instead. Is this a character study? Yes.
