If OT isn’t paid, their hours should be paid back somehow. If the contract states 5pm means 5pm. The irresponsible manager that gave whatever assignment with a tight deadline without properly access-

8:30pm is significantly late. That’s a lot of family/personal time being cut into. TOIL should be taken as soon as possible after OT to maintain productivity.

Yes because unless you get overtime for that you’d be going over your weekly hours. Also, staying until 8:30 then expecting to show up at 8/9am the next morning is wild

he's is not wrong tho, if the company would like to extend the working hours of their employees, they should give compensation for that. if not OT pay, atleast give them time to rest

Normal in australia. If I stay late, I will come in late or go home early. Otherwise the work place has to put those hours in time in lew and I could save up weeks of time off

Employers lean heavily on the clause ‘includes reasonable overtime’ way too much. If a role takes 45 hours each week but you only pay for 38 hours - you are stealing from your staff.

I have personally made arrangements like this with my direct reports more than once. Usually I'll round the hour up. if they say 1130am, I'll say see you at noon.

of course it's fair. if the employee came in late, would the employer just close one eye? nah they'd scold the employee. or make him stay later to "make up" for it. this is the same thing.

Fair because as per employment contract, there should be hours stated. If employee has worked beyond stated hours for company/work purposes, then the employee can come in late the next day.
