Those professional certifications are only if you want to work in the public sector or do work that deals with buildings! For research purposes like universities and others, you don’t need the cert!

Thats why i stopped going to college… wanted to be IT but they were giving me other classes that had nothing to do with IT. So im looking to get my cert on my own (compTIA etc..)

The ring doesn’t have to do with the test. The ring just symbolizes an oath to being ethical. The FE test also isn’t necessary. It hasn’t helped me get a job

ABET doesn’t matter for CompE, it’s not like the big 4, that’s why the best CompE programs all are leaving ABET because it’s not relevant for us unless you want to work in fedgov.

The Engineer in Training (EIT) is like a baby Professional Engineer (PE) test (which you take years after graduating). Some industries (e.g. civil engineering) require everyone in a firm to be a PE.

I’m comp sci, we focus more on the software side of how computer compute and operate. Computer Eng learn the software but also dive more into the hardware architecture of computers like the CPU

Idk what you mean by “test” if your referring to a PE or FE exams then you almost definitely do not need to take it unless you want to go into power, etc, i got the iron ring for comp eng

Just to clarify u can still get the ring without the exams. U can just get ur bachelors and get the ring then after get the title change. Also if ur civil then you do two exams FE (or called EIT) then

I mean you don’t have to be a state certified engineer, most working in industry are not, especially if they hold an MS or. PhD, it’s more for gov workers or public utilities workers

Don’t have to be called one to be one. As long as you’re taking engineering classes youre learning to think like an engineer. Everything else shouldn’t matter. Youre in the degree for the career
