Machines… Which is better? 🤔 120lbs while talking not so easy 😂 To add some more nuance, I am a huge proponent of using free weights as a base to get comfortable with moving your body under load. I believe that the internal stability demands help people improve their mind muscle connection and proprioceptive functions which can carry over very well in the long run. That being said, machines are almost always better for providing isolated stimulus to target muscles while minimizing fatigue. The issue is that machines are not built for every individual height, limb and torso length, and structure, so not every machine will work equally as well for each person. This means that there’s a learning curve for machines too, which is fine, but consider this when someone says “x” machine or “x” exercise is the best. In my opinion, a mixture of both machines and free weights won’t only provide the best overall outcomes, but it will also facilitate a more enjoyable, less monotonous structure to your training which isn’t talked about enough.
