our brains are always on, even when we are at home. we can never turn the training off. we are always analyzing scenes and dangers. that's why I have to sit with my back to a wall, facing the door.

I cannot for the life of me sleep well at the base- even if we don’t get toned all night. I come home and sometimes just sleep all day. It’s so hard to turn my brain off or explain this to my family.

As a dispatcher in most states it’s considered clerical work. my family said I just sit and answered phones until they realized the calls I was taking. No one calls 911 on a good day.

It goes so much deeper than that. It has so many emotional layers that any decent person will never tell it all to their Loved ones. They have to save them from the trama they carry from it all

Have you looked into how PTSD affects the brain? I wrote a paper on it a couple years ago. Your brain physically changes. Very interesting

Thank you for bringing so much awareness to this. As a first responder, it’s amazing to see someone who isn’t in EMS bringing awareness to this very subject! Opening the narrative!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

I run it off. If I come home and immediately lace up the running shoes, my wife steers the kids away until I come back. Bless her.
