Of course it’s important for us to set the example for the behaviour we want, meaning on the day to day, I exude calmness when I want her to settle and think clearly. But when she’s excited, she doesn’t know how to hold back! There’s only one way for her to learn and that’s with body language. Number one rule…. All the fun goes away when she jumps up. Then all the fun comes back when she gives us the calm behaviour we want. Some people like to turn around and ignore the dogs when they do this RUDE behaviour, but truthfully I have never seen this work. Stepping into their space makes them uncomfortable the same way it does for us.
