I’m fine with traditional drawing, but my proportions are always off digitally, even using the same techniques. So I usually sketch on paper first, then trace and colour digitally

i trace somewhat, but i just take the photo of the pose i want and then trace the guidelines over it, and then redraw those guidelines on my own. it lowk helped me learn how to do more poses

Tracing is basically baby steps for learning, not inherantlly tracing over an object or person but more understanding of its fundementals, if this makes any senss

I use tracing for realistic portrait usually it helps speed up the process a ton (either royalty free photos or my own) but I am very capable of drawing things from scratch it's just a time saver

I tend to trace out the basic pose of a figure, and then use that sketch as a reference to draw it myself. It makes it a little easier than just drawing straight from the pose reference.
