in 3rd grade we had 2 guinea pigs. that each kid got to take home to care for during on the weekend. I always ended up having to care for them during holiday breaks.

I have guinea pigs in my class, one died a few months ago and my students were PISSED because it was Maggie that died and not Maple or Morgan😂 obviously Maggie was the class favorite

My daughter's 4th grade teacher has a snake as a class pet. She came home on the first week of school and said " Mom we watched him feed the snake. It was not nice".

We've got a red knee tarantula named Pookie. She hasn't eaten in 6 weeks because she's molting. Easier than the plants honestly, though she might last for a 25 years

I had a ball python. I made the mistake of feeding her in front of my 1st graders. Ball pythons have horrible aim. She missed her food and bit me, in frint of the kids... no longer have a pet snake
