Install the strip into channel cut into the kick board. Way easier and FAR less work. As well, will be far less expensive and will provide plenty of mounting options such as overhang.

If you use two multi tool blades at the same time that will cut your perfect half inch in the drywall to put the first blade on upside down, and then put the other blade right on top of it
