Ibn Taymiyyah critiques the māturīdī position by showing how their conclusions—given the Aristotelian framework—do not uphold when measured against the naql (النقل, revelation) from Allāh. They engaged in taqlīd (تَقليد, blind following) of the philosophers, and through this taqlīd, they were led astray, reaching false conclusions which they then claimed were known by ʿaql (العقل, reason). This ultimately led them to reject what Allāh had affirmed for Himself and placed them in opposition to the Lord and His Messenger ﷺ. Ibn Taymiyyah resolved the conflict between ʿaql (reason) and naql (revelation), while also refuting the dogmas of: Allāh not having a makān (مكان, place), At-taʾthīr al-lā-zamānī (التأثير اللازماني, atemporal causation), The belief that Allāh only knows universals and not particulars, And the doctrine of basāṭah ilāhiyyah (البساطة الإلهية, divine simplicity), a view often upheld by the neo-māturīdīs. Ibn Taymiyyah also established that Allāh can act whenever He wills (fiʿl ikhtiyārī zamānī – فعل اختياري زماني), that divine simplicity is not a necessary attribute, that Allāh has full and complete knowledge of kulliyyāt wa juzʾiyyāt (universals and particulars), and that He can will whatever He wants while still preserving human ikhtiyār (اختيار, free will). He further demonstrated that Aristotelian philosophy is not necessary for Islamic theology (ʿaqīdah), and that creed should be taken from Allāh and His Messenger alone. He proved that the divine texts (naṣūṣ sharʿiyyah) are superior to fallible human reasoning (ʿaql naqīṣ). In summary Ibn Taymiyyah proved that the salafī God was the only acceptable God given both revelation and reason which both compliment each other in search of the knowledge of the divine. #philosophy #reason #logic #edit #realityunveiled #fyp #foryoupage #islam #ibntaymiyyah #god #salafi #maturidi #ashari
