I had a friend's dad call 911 from his hospital room when he felt no one was listening. turns out he was right, it was an emergency and the hospital admin was not pleased with the fall out of that.

Family rule at our house is no one spends time alone in the hospital after I almost died from sepsis

I wish I knew this when my local hospital tried to convince me my toddler was just belly breathing.. luckily another nurse heard me getting mad & decided to hook him up and saw that his 02 was in fact

I always wear my nicest scrubs when I check on/ visit family and friends in the hospital. I swear they get more attention and I get all kinds of updates. They don’t need to know I’m a dental hygienist

During my training as an RN I came across a physician ,as he was educating me on diagnosing he said , “And when all else fails listen to the patient “ 🤣 I have saved lives

in my state in Australia it's called Ryan's Rule, named after a little boy who died after his parents' concerns were ignored. if you invoke it, it triggers a review of your care by higher ups

It’s wild that even a doctor is ignored in a hospital.

This is the perfect time to share the fact that a pulse ox reading can be ok-ish but the pt can still be hypoxic!

My sister died from sepsis from a broken ankle she hid from everyone. People need to know more about sepsis.

my dad always wore nicer clothing when my grandma was in the hospital because they'd treat him like he knew more than he did and it helped her treatment

I always say that if you’re in the hospital you NEEED someone with you at all times to advocate for you!

RN here and I completely agree. It’s always safer to have someone with you to help advocate for you. Staff RNs at bedside now are generally inexperienced and overwhelmed due to not being supported

My husband is an amazing advocate. I was in labor with #3. I told the nurse I had to push, she had just checked me 5 min prior & I was at 7cm so she told me I was wrong & walked out the room.

1. How do you call it as a family member? 2. Have you ever seen nurses retaliate for 'going over their heads'? (That would worry me, tbh)

Everyone needs an advocate in medical settings, and especially in hospital. Hopefully, things go well. But when they don’t, patient NEEDS someone able & willing to fight for them

They’ve just made little cards for this at the hosp where I work. People can take a card off the wall and hand it to the nursing station and a response must be provided.

I was admitted to the ER, told them my exact condition and that it’s lifethreating and rapidly deteriorating (was already struggling to walk and speak) and was still left for HOURS.

I've never heard of "Condition H". I've been a nurse for 8 years and have worked in healthcare for almost a decade in 4 different systems. This is a great idea. 😍
