It’s the cranberries themselves. They have a high amount of phenol, which can be perceived like soap- just like the cilantro thing.

I think its that some people just like to complain. I always tell my kids 'dont yuck someones yum' try a recipe and if you dont like it alter it to your liking!

Also, if you blend regular sugar it turns into powder sugar so you can avoid the starch all together 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

Powdered sugar always tastes super funky to me. I’ve done candied cranberries with regular sugar, and they come out prettier and a little crunchier.

you can blend sugar in a blender to get powdered sugar. you just have to use right away

Ok...I went down a whole rabbit hole after this on the QR6A2 gene that involves the disdain for cilantro. And those that have that mutation can have a dislike for foods containing linalool. That can be found in artificial sweetener*and* in some edible fruits including cranberries

fyi to anyone interested: you can make your own powdered sugar by blending regular sugar (that's all it is, just blended fine; the stuff they add is to stop clumping like Soogia said)

mine tasted like soap😭😭😭 I opened a new powdered sugar and it also tasted like soap😭😭😭 I love cranberries and wanted to try them but failed twice ☹️☹️
