@abc7chicago: Pancake ice formed on Lake Superior as temperatures in Wisconsin dropped on November 30. Video filmed by local photographer Cheryl Koval shows the disc-shaped ice formations floating on top of the frigid lake. Pancake ice occurs in cold conditions on big bodies of water, when strong waves do not allow the surface to freeze into a singular sheet of ice. Separate pancake-shaped discs form as waves bump them into each other.
