Possibly later Harry and Draco will tell Ron who they’re seeing, but for now at least Ron will have some time to let the news that he apparently is a rainbow magnet sink in a little bit! Also! I know some folks have been frustrated with ron and how slow he is on the uptake, but like I said I really want these characters to have a realistic character growth. With Snape, his growth has mostly come from having somebody he feels the need to grow for. Snape very much is a character who requires an outside force to give him a reason to be a better version of himself until he decides that he likes this new version of himself. Draco is a child and craves the validation of the adult figures around him like most children do, especially one who has been emotionally neglected by many authority figures in his life. His growth comes from somebody giving him a place to grow and the “permission” to be more than what is expected of him. Through this Draco has become more confident in his own beliefs and doesn’t feel the need to rely so heavily on outside validation, which has made him a better person, though he still has more growth to do. Ron’s need for growth comes from a place of ignorance and somewhat selfishness because of his environment. His parents are wonderful people and are very loving and accepting, and I’m sure would have taught him to love and accept everyone, regardless of differences, however, he’s the second youngest of seven children. While he generally has a pretty good moral compass sometimes that gets overshadowed by his need for some semblance of control and recognition. As a result, he can be a little pigheaded and selfish sometimes, but it doesn’t come from a place of malice and he certainly doesn’t want to hurt his friends so his place of growth will come from seeing how his behavior affects others and wanting to change that. But like the old saying goes, old habits die hard, and for all three of them, it’s going to be a somewhat long journey that’s going to end up having some bumps in the road. Personal growth isn’t about never making a mistake or being perfect perfect after one correction, it’s about making a genuine effort, and that’s the sort of character growth story I’m going for with this series.
