Depends on the class. Some classes can’t handle 30 seconds of free time. Some are fine if there are days where I put a list of things they need to have done and the last item on the list is “look busy

kinder, I try to keep it as normal as possible. the last 2 days we take it easy but I still have so much for us to do that it's not free time. it's focusing their excitement.

The more I think about it the more I'm glad to go to a high school that was ran like a college because if a teacher had nothing planned that day these kids are just sit there and be on their phones

I tried to play math review games with my students 2 days before break, and they all whined about it, and were jerks. So the day before break they got a quiz. Y'all don't want to have fun? Fine.

My team tries to give our kids a “fun day” but they have to earn it. So one teacher will have a “fun room” one will have a “chill room” and the other one will have a “work room”. We teach MS.

when I was in highschool I hated free days because I would regret not having stayed at home doing things I actually like and being forced to stay on a cold building doing things I didn't like that+

So true!!! With 8th grade and up, 2-3 kids will find a way to ruin it for the rest. 😓 I'm a middle school teacher and it always drives me crazy to see how you simply cannot do fun things older kids

for the kids who want structure, I had a teacher who had "stations" one was for an optional review for the class, one was a quiet space to do work from other classes, and one volume fun like card games or getting to surf your phone

See, i was a good kid. When we had the controlled free days, i would ask if i could work on something else. Most teachers said yea because i was well behaved. Being a good kid had its advantages.

High school schedules are really weird because in one class they’ll be like oh yeah he’s a laptop so you get free computer time and then in another class they’ll be like get out your workbook and your pens and copy down all of this extremely difficult stuff on the board
